Publisher's Description:CDC EDITS provides tools to improve the quality of data by standardizing the way data items are checked for validity. The CDC EDITS tools have been developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to implement the National Program of Cancer Registries, established by Public Law 102-515. These tools are provided for free distribution to the public health community. These tools can be built into interactive data collection systems to achieve real-time field-by-field editing during data entry. They can also be used in batch-editing processes for data already collected. CDC EDITS provides software to support three types of data activities: defining standards for data quality, creating data collection processes, and analyzing data.
CDC EDITS tools include the following:
The EditWriter Program
EditWriter is a versatile and complete development environment for defining, testing, documenting, and distributing data standards. It also provides a means of maintaining a standard definition. Although EditWriter is an MS-DOS program, the Metafiles it produces can be used on other operating systems and on hardware platforms other than the PC. Even if you are not a standard-setter for others, but have responsibility for a data set or for a data-collection operation, you will find that EditWriter is a convenient and complete tool for creating edit checks and maintaining them over time. Data checking can be as complete and as complicated as your applications require.
GenEDITS - The Generic CDC EDITS Driver Program
The Generic CDC EDITS Driver Program (GenEDITS) is a batch application for editing any data file with any CDC EDITS Metafile. GenEDITS is the fastest way to apply standard edits to your data and get a report of data errors. Since GenEDITS already incorporates the CDC EDITS API, no programming is required.
The CDC EDITS Application Program Interface
The CDC EDITS Application Program Interface (API) can be incorporated into programs of many descriptions, including programs for interactive data-entry, after-the-fact verification of data, recoding, reformatting, and vertical or horizontal subsetting. Any language product for Windows should be able to use the CDC EDITS API. Additionally, applications written in C and compiled with modern compilers for MS-DOS, UNIX, and VAX/VMS operating systems can include the CDC EDITS Engine. The CDC EDITS API is distributed as 16- and 32-bit Windows Dynamic Link Libraries (DLL) and as C source code.
